Biography
Professor Wenping Cao received the B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1991, and Ph.D. degree in electrical motor drives from University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK, in 2004. His research interests include fault analysis and condition monitoring of power electronics and motor drives.

Prof. Cao is a Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering with Anhui University, Hefei City, China. He started Asunx Semiconductors Co., Ltd in Hefei in 2021, and established Anhui Province Engineering Research Center for Advanced Power Electronics and Energy conversion in Anhui Province. He won five Gold Medals from Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions between 2023 and 2026, including two Gold Medal AFJ Awards, as well as the First Award of Advance of Science and Technology from Anhui Province in 2023, First Award of Advance of Science and Technology from China Power Supply Society in 2024, First Prize of Teaching Achievements from Anhui Province in 2024, and First Prize of Innovations of China Electrotechnical Society in 2025.

Prior to joining Anhui University, Prof. Cao was Chair Professor at Aston University and Research Professor at Queen’s University Belfast, UK. He won a “Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award” in 2016, the “Dragon’s Den Competition Award” from Queen’s University Belfast in 2014, the “Innovator of the Year Award” from Newcastle University, UK, in 2013. He was IE-13 Chair for IEEE Industrial Electronics Society between 2017-2020. He has secured research funding of over 8 million pounds from EPSRC, NSFC, Horizon 2020 and industry. He has published over 300 high quality journal papers with an H-index of 66 (2021), and supervised 21 PhDs to completion.

He is IET Fellow, Royal Society Wolfson Fellow and Marie Curie Fellow. He has been Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industry Application, IET Power Electronics, and editorial board member for several international journals, and Conference Chair for several international conferences.
